How to talk to my baby at 3 months
Great Question. Very specific so lets get straight to the point.
IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START SPEAKING TO YOUR BABY. I learned this from my SLP friend Alayna, who also comes on here to share her knowledge! I have 3 children myself along with years of working with kids. Even before I was a pediatric physical therapist I worked many jobs involving playing with children. lets see- there was soccer referee, swim teacher, swim coach, babysitting- wow I did a lot of that looking back, definitely more that I forgot.
I am sharing a video below how I speak/play/sing with my 3 month old baby, & here are some tips.
SING. all the songs you know. and ALL the songs you make up.
TONE. Make up sounds or use different tones of your voice. go really high then really low, play around with it. The DUMBER YOU FEEL- the more correct you are doing it !!
MAKE UP sounds. Airplane sounds, boop sounds, animal sounds.
DESCRIBE your environment, use details to show baby “ this is the fridge where we get food and soon yourll be eating all the food baby to get big and strong like mommy !”
Or describe PLANS. I like to describe the bedtime routine. “ Ok baby we are going to go in the bath, then dry up and lotion, brush your hair ‘brush brush brush’, put on your pjs, nursey-time, and then your go “night night”. ESTABLISHING ATHE SAME words to use for bedtime/ nap time is IMPORTANT for baby to start understanding they have to go to sleep.
Keeping your day routined at this stage is also important. Around 3 months baby will start sleeping longer stretches, as long as you maintain routine in your day.. at least that is what it was with my 3 kids.
LAST TIP: REPETITION IS KEY. By repeating the same sound, especially one with 3 syllables (LIKE THE FIRST VIDEO BELOW) baby learns to expect the sound and then gets excited for it. Baby is learning and then laughing because he KNOWS what is coming.
The 2nd video is another example of using sounds, repeating those sounds and ADDING touch. I am using incorporating multiple senses for enhanced learning.
The 3rd video same thing- using sound & touch . Simple words and sounds at this point. But also helps to walk around and describe the environment like I wrote above!
Enjoy & Drop a ♥️ if this was helpful in the comments below.
